A report out today says profits at Stella McCartney's company increased sixfold last year. Clearly, her feel-good formula is working, and her Spring 2009 handbag collection is a shining example. Almost all of her handbag collection were clutches, which is a big trend for Spring 2009. As someone who doesn't care for clutches because they are too small to hold my essentials, even for the evening, she designed some clutch handbags that are more roomy. She used unconventional and inexpensive materials, wood, that may have been a nod to the down economy. (Let's hope the lack of cost in materials translates to a lower price in the stores.) Even with wood, her clutch bags look super chic and cool. Stella McCartney's patent leather clutch bags were finished with a coin purse closure, which I love. It's similar to the Marc Jacobs Stam purse closure, except she uses a round ball shape instead of the coin shape on the Stam. I thought her 2009 handbag collection is fantastic, and I look forward to seeing the fashion savvy women carrying them next spring.
