That's A Fabulous Handbag

Versace debuted a collection of beautiful, colorful handbags for Spring/Summer 2010. Donatella Versace was inspired by Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland (which comes out next March). "I loved the idea of that fantasy land," she said. The inspiration is evident in her use of vivid pastels, geometric prints, and baroque curlicues.

While I'm usually not a fan of Versace handbags, this season I am, especially the bright pastel python clutches. I also like her variation of the classic flap shoulder bag.

This Versace handbag will not be released until Fall 2009, but I am eagerly awaiting it's arrival. It is called the 'Socialite' bag and I'm loving the red snakeskin and the funky, utilitarian metal hardware. I'm usually not a fan of the somewhat boring Versace bags, but this one is really great. It will take more than one design to make me a convert, but it's a step in the right direction.

This is a fabulous handbag in many ways. First, the color. I love the creamy look of the off white leather. It makes the bag look soft before even touching it. Second, I love the puckered Napa leather, which also makes the bag look soft and squishy, definitely something comfortable to rest the arm on. Third, I like the braided leather shoulder strap with the over sized clasp attachment at the one end. And lastly, the single tassel adds a chic flair without overdoing it. This is a great overall handbag that I would love to have in my collection, but it's a bit out of my price range. $3,440 at eLuxury.

I have written about this handbag when it first came out, because I think it's a great bag, so I'm super excited it's now on sale. It's the Cole Haan Genevieve Tote, and it's woven patent leather and suede. The fluid-like weaving pattern is beautiful. On sale from $395 to $236.

This is another bag I have previously written about. It's the Versace 'Kiss' Croc embossed shopper and it's also available in black. If you have had your eye on this bag, now is the time to grab one. On sale from $3,045 to $1,819.

Versace opened a flagship boutique in Rome last week. Flagship boutiques are known for their ostentatious merchandise, so these stores are probably the ones carrying the runway bags that I so covet and can never find.
