That's A Fabulous Handbag

I usually like Prada's classic, leather bags with simple logo details. Prada never goes overboard with labels everywhere and that's a good thing. The brand has earned a reputation of understated luxury, only recognizable by insiders. Rarely does Prada designer, Miuccia Prada, go outside of her standard, classic designs described as cool, comfortable, pure, graceful, and minimalistic. When she does, like with this snakeskin print bag, it can be hit or miss, however I really like this one. It's nylon gabardine with snake print and gold Prada logo on front with oversized bow detail. It has lambskin handles and a detachable shoulder strap. It's at Bluefly for 20% off, $995 $796. If you want it, better hurry, there's one left.

The Prada Spring/Summer 2010 handbags were very, very good and very, very bad. Let's start with the good, like the handbag pictured above. I love that it's not quite black and white, and it's not quite grey, but rather some sort of combination and I LOVE the crystal snap closure detail. The clutch version is equally fabulous. I also really like the linen bags with crystal detail. Tan colored linen is one of my favorite looks during warm weather.

Then we get to the clear, plastic bags. Why do luxury designers keep doing this? I don't even like clear bags for my beach towels. Not only do they look messy when there is anything in them, but forget about carrying a tampon or some such unmentionable in there. And, lastly, they look cheap.

One of the bags appears as if it is a fabric bag within a clear doctors bag (7th picture down). That one isn't too terribly bad, and it's somewhat interesting, but it still looks cheap (and it's a Marc Jacobs rip off).

While I'm not a huge fan of Prada handbags, sometimes they pleasantly suprise me and create something pretty and feminine, taking a little break from their typical androginous designs. This season has alot of pretty colors as well as pretty details, and this handbag, the Prada Vitello Daino Tote, is one of them. Although it's a simple tote, the metallic pink exterior is very nice and a great color for Spring and Summer. Also it's split into three seperate compartments, with the smaller two on the sides perfect for a water bottle. Or for those of us who have babies and refuse to lug around a baby bag, the compartments perfectly hold a baby bottle upright and easy to access. This handbag is leather. $1,495 at Saks.

The Prada Fall 2009 Handbag Collection is classic and sophisticated ( with a couple of exceptions ), a wonderful surprise considering last years lace debacle. The shoulder bags were somewhat reminiscent of a doctors bag, but in beautiful shades of burgundy or embellished nylon with the Prada logo moved to the more discreet side of the bag. I'm torn on the evening clutches. I love the studded wrist straps, and the mustard velvet, but I'm not sure about the fur. I don't like it simply because if it gets wet it looks hideous - like a wet animal. The one handbag from this collection that was really bad is a compilation of straps of studded leather that looks like it was thrown together.
