That's A Fabulous Handbag

Sorry for the extended break in posts, I have been traveling. So after being away from the internet for almost a week, I was shocked to log on and find Net a Porter STILL hasn't put up their Fall 2009 bags. Seriously, that's just bad business. Are they understaffed... going out of business...? The other luxury brand stores has had them out for over a month. It's so troubling because now that eLuxury is gone, Net a Porter is the only states based store with broad selection. Saks, Neimans, etc... just don't compare.

They do, however, have this newly released Judith Leiber Jaguar clutch. I have never been a big fan of her bags, but I have to admit they are little works of art. If I had one it would stay in a display case and probably never be carried. This clutch is a little larger than her usual 'holds only cash and a key'. You could also throw a cell phone and lipstick in this one. It has leather lining and comes with a miniature vanity mirror. As usual per Judith Leiber, it ain't cheap. $5,495 at Net a Porter.

 In the spirit of Valentine's Day, I bring you the Judith Leiber Heart N' Soul Minaudier. It may be a little hokey, but isn't this the perfect little clutch for a V Day date? It is, but it's also a cute little clutch that you can carry year round. Granted, measuring 4.5" H x 4" W x 2" D, you can't carry much more than lipstick and a few bills, but if that's all you need, this clutch is perfect and it's sure to elicit compliments galore. Available at Neiman Marcus, $2,195.

Singer and host Katy Perry arrive at the 2008 MTV Music award carrying the very hot Judith Leiber cupcake purse. A fanciful and beautiful cupcake, although sadly not edible, it is a sparkly rendition of the tasty treat. Covered in vanilla-hued crystals and flower detail, it is a small bag which will stow only the most tiny of accessories -- a credit card, lip gloss and perhaps a key. Retailing at $4,295, it is probably the most expensive cupcake in the world.

I don't get the appeal or price tags for the Judith Leiber handbags. These are literally "handbags", fitting in the palm of your hand. They are very pretty to look at, but what can it hold? One key, a tube of lipstick? They have no function. It would be OK in a display case, but even then they really aren't that special. It's just a metal form covered with crystals.

A very knowledgeable salesman at Neiman Marcus in Dallas told me Leiber's come back often because the crystals fall off. The crystals are GLUED on. That is just not acceptable for Judith Leiber price points. The crystals should be set. 

They have very valuable brand recognition, I guess that's why they expect an exorbitant $5,595 for this clutch.
