That's A Fabulous Handbag

This is one of my all time favorite Gucci handbags. It’s a large ‘New Jackie’ that features two side tassels with bamboo detail and oversized stitching. I love the orange leather trim. It’s a nice, not overdone use of the bright color and it looks great next to the beige GG monogram fabric. The ‘New Jackie’ is a tote with a single leather strap that folds over the top of the bag and fastens with a silver clasp. This bag has a removable cross body strap or can be worn as a shoulder bag. The main thing that stands out when looking at the Fall 2010 Gucci handbags is the new GG logo. It’s not instantly recognizable as a Gucci bag, but that’s the point. Frida Giannini said the collection was designed for the more mature woman and that came across as rich materials like ostrich and crocodile and an absence of the traditional GG logo covered bags.

I’m torn on how I feel about this collection. While the GG fabric bags can be a bit obnoxious, I like the leather GG guccissima bags and would like to see them continued. I like the sophistication and classic designs of the solid bags, but the checkered fabric bag is hideous and I hope she stops using this ridiculous material. It was used last season and every single bag ended up on sale.

Just as I thought Frida Giannini has lost the crazy and understood people will not pay top dollar for hideous handbags, she pulls out something like this. Granted, this is the only atrocious bag in the entire collection of Spring 2010 Gucci handbags, but wow, is it a doozy. It's a boston bag, my least favorite shape, and it's covered with brown elephants, white gingerbread men, and green leaves over white and tan GG print canvas. Hideous! $695 at Gucci.com

I have recently decided to give Gucci handbags another look based on their past couple of collections, and as I was trolling their website I almost pulled out my retired pink Visa over a shiny green python tote.  Luckily I came to my senses and moved on, that's when I came across the Bamboo Bar Leather tote.  Now this is not a bad looking, under the radar, designer handbag. I like the roomy shape, the ever so slightly distressed leather and the discreetly placed strip of embossed logo leather by the metal hardware.  There are two shoulder straps, braided leather shorter strap and GG embossed logo longer strap. ($1,895 at Gucci.com).

With this Fall/Winter collection, Gucci is back on my list of 'must have' designer handbags. The designs are simple and elegant in fabulous materials and traditional colors. I think it's important for super high end croc bags to be in neutral colors to maintain the bags elegance. When I see a pink or blue croc I literally cringe. Anyway, Gucci got it right with this collection.

Although it's just November first, I'm already imagining my Christmas handbag wish list. I usually pick four or five bags and let my husband surprise me. Obviously I would choose a croc Birkin or a python Chanel, but I have to stay within a certain budget. Here are a few I'm considering, but what is going to be on your list????

This is the Lanvin Happy Sack Quilted Bag.
I have been falling in love with Lanvin handbags this year. I love the pretty ribbon and bow detail woven through the chain strap. Also, the quilted leather bag is beautiful and the color could go with almost anything. $1,960

This is the Gucci Medium Boston Bag. I know the GG embossed leather can be a bit obnoxious, but it's in all black so it's not too obvious. With the chain details, the bag has a bit of the rocker chic vibe, but not enough that it can't outlast the trend. $1,990

This is the Louis Vuitton Pailette Monogram Eclipse. Again the LV's are everywhere, but I don't care. I really like this bag. Lil' more expensive though, $2,470.
