DKNY, like many other luxury designers in the fall 2009 collections, kept things simple and created classic designs that will transcend the trends. These handbags are elegant and classy, but also a bit boring. However, designers are playing it safe in light of the recession. Let's hope these economic woes lift in time for the spring 2010 collections.

I love this new Donna Karen handbag. This one is her Metallic leather Hobo and I like it because it can be worn with both casual and dressy outfits. The metallic leather easily works with evening wear, but the cracked, distressed finish makes the bag great for daily wear. This handbag is gold lambskin, looped shoulder strap with gold metal embellishment, and a detachable key ring. Available at Net a Porter, $1,695.

I think this is a gorgeous bag from Donna Karen. It is snakeskin embossed leather dyed a light purple and dark purple snake embossed leather trim with metal studs. I like how the thrww straps on the sides of the bag come together and attach to the metal ring. It's just the right amount of hardware accents. Of course I love the colors and the shape. I always need a big handbag that's easy to get things in and out. This would be a great, chic everyday bag. Available at zappos.com , $349.

I'm loving Donna Karen's Spring 2009 handbag collection. The gemstone embellishments are fabulous on both the evening clutches as well as the day to night top handle. The snakeskin goes beautifully with the gemstones in the top picture, and I love the gathered body. In the past Donna Karen has had a pretty conservative, safe look, but I'm glad to see she's getting glitzier with this collection. I wonder if her price points will change as well? I hope not.

Usually Donna Karen's handbags are somewhat boring, but I like this one. It's the Modern Aries handbag. I like the clean, simple design the neutral color - it’s great with nearly any other color and is essentially seasonless, so you can carry it no matter what time of year it is. That’s great if you can’t be bothered with changing purses often and just want something stylish that you can rely on without a thought. The large knots on the handle add a burst of unexpected chic to an otherwise very simple bag. Available for $1995 at Net-a-Porter.
