That's A Fabulous Handbag

The Chanel handbags for Fall 2010 are hit and miss. Karl Lagerfeld said the theme for the collection was “three bears on an ice flow”, and from that are some pretty ice-y looking bags and some furry monstrosities. I’ll start with the ones I liked, like the quilted flap bag above. Unlike the classic flap bag, this one is actually a satchel that zips open at the top, and I really like how it looks like the bag was barely dipped in black paint. The next four are pretty much classic Chanel, always good to me.

Here are the three little bags that look like ice sculptures. Love them.

Love this bag. It’s a classic shoulder bag but with pieces of ‘ice’ on the front and a dangling ice charm on the chain strap.

I am on the fence about these bags. Not a fan of fur bags, but they aren’t hideous.

The random camping backpack, ‘cause that’s where you take your Chanel.

These fabulous Chanel handbags were made for the Paris-Shanghai collection in honor of the Chinese New Year. It's pretty well known that Asians account for the majority of sales in luxury goods, so it's fitting they have bags made in honor of the largest Asian country's new year. These bags are in the classic flap style, but covered in shiny sequins. LOVE them. The Paris-Shanghai collection is coming soon to a CHANEL boutique near you!

I simply don't understand why Chanel can't just stick to fashion. The bikes and motorcycles are gay enough, but a freaking Chanel football? What guy that actually plays football would throw a Chanel ball? I was seriously considering a Chanel bag for my next handbag purchase, but when the label pimps itself out to any and evey retail outlet, I'm going to reconsider. Next thing I know we'll be seeing Chanel at Costco, a la Ed Hardy. And today what's the cheesiest brand on the planet? That's right, Ed Hardy. Take a hint Karl, oversaturation isn't good.

Chanel Coco Country handbag

While most of the Chanel handbags from the Spring and Summer 2010 collections were country inspired designs, and not especially appealing to me, Karl did design a beautiful sequined clutch that I would love to see in my collection. I prefer the classic flap bags from Chanel, so the trendy runway bags are usually not my speed.

Either Karl Lagerfeld is getting dementia or Chanel has a death wish. Brace yourself...Chanel handbags are being sold at COSTCO! WT*@#? I go to Costco for bulk items and wine, and, sure, I check out the Coach bags, the random jewelry and the Lladro figurines sometimes. I'm not a snob, really, but Coach a Chanel is not. You can't even buy a new, authentic Chanel online, and now they're going to be available at a wholesale warehouse?! Yeah, I'll pick up two tons of toilet paper, a slab of beef and a Chanel 2.55.

Louis Vuittons are also being sold at Costco, but this isn't such a big deal. Some of the cheaper, more common designs like the Louis Vuitton Speedy are produced in mass amounts and are sure to have alot of extra unsold inventory, especially in a recession. And bags aren't that special - the designs are very basic and all are the LV Monogram canvas.

At the new East 116th Costco Street store in Manhattan: "The new location currently has Chanel Classic Flap handbags available for $1,999, though the salesperson, a man, was not sure what sizes were available (baby, small, medium, large or jumbo). These regularly sell anywhere from $1,795 to $2.495. However, he did say that earlier today they sold out of Louis Vuitton Speedy bags, regularly priced from $665 to more than $3,000, all three going for $589 a pop."

Karl Lagerfeld was inspired by rustic couture for his Chanel spring 2010 collections, and while I'm not crazy about the shoes, I love the handbag collection. He had his classic quilted flap bag in straw colored tweed, as well as chicly tattered, beribboned, and embellished shoulder bag. He had a few variations of a double coin purse bag and a reincarnation of the sideways bag, this time in gold, floral embossed leather.

I really like the Chanel handbags in this collection and I think it's a huge improvement from his previous shows.
