Who says you can’t be highbrow and badass at the same time? No one does ladylike-meets-badass better than Alexander McQueen. The skull clutch has been on the scene for a few years now, but Sarah Burton continues to reinvent the design and make it new again, each time juxtaposing the contrasting elements.

This spring/summer 2012 clutch is called the Skull Jaw clutch because the jaw moves, and when the mouth “opens” the crystal teeth are revealed. It is cream colored leather with leather straps that knot at the front center and has gold tone hardware and a crystal embellished skull snap closure. The crystal embellished skull has practically become synonymous with the Alexander McQueen brand, but sometimes the skull is the focal point of the bag and sometimes the skull is more discreet like on this tote. Either way, I love it. Another thing I love is a big, structured tote. Big, because I carry a lot of stuff and I like the look of a big bag for daytime, and structured because it keeps my valuable safes from falling out (floppy totes are too vulnerable). This McQueen tote is right up my alley, and sense it’s neutral black I can wear it year round with practically everything.

The only thing I like better than an Alexander McQueen handbag is a McQueen handbag with a matching wallet. I have to admit, I’m a little obsessed with having matching wallets for my bags. Unfortunately, some designers don’t offer matching accessories for their bags, but when they do it’s a pair I can’t resist. This DeManta clutch does have a matching wallet and before you say a clutch doesn’t need a wallet, take note that the Demanta is very large.

We have all come to know and love the Alexander McQueen skull clutch in all it’s variations, well now we have a soft version and it’s a bit bigger and has a chain shoulder strap. We all need a clutch bag for certain occasions, but why have something boring when you can carry around a super cool bag like this one? In neutral black, it can be paired with almost any look, and although it’s technically a clutch, pull out the chain strap and wear to less formal events where you don’t need to carry tons of gear. I never tire of the new versions of the Alexander McQueen knuckle duster clutch. It’s just the coolest damn bag I have ever seen. This crochet design is versatile and would look great with most evening attire, a good thing sense the clutch bags can be a pricey, yet underused investment. However, although it’s not something your going to carry daily, every girl needs a great clutch – a lesson I was reminded of last weekend. I had a formal event and I carried a small, solid black Louis Vuitton clutch, a very nice, yet boring bag. Sitting at the table over were two ladies, one with an amazing Judith Leiber and the other with a beautiful Fendi baguette. Needless to say, I then realized I need a clutch with a little more pizzazz – something like this McQueen knuckle duster.

The Alexander McQueen box clutch, both knuckle duster and skull, have gone through almost every incarnation I can think possible, but this gold and silver studded version is one of the most versatile. First and foremost it has both silver and gold hardware, and as the clutch is an extension of your jewelry it makes sense it would match the metal. Also this knuckle duster clutch is bigger and can, therefore, hold more things, including a cell phone (I have to have my cell phone at all times). Lastly, while your hand isn’t exactly freed up completely, the knuckle duster allows more movement so you aren’t, literally, clutching the bag all evening.
